BMW Tuning For Less

For most people, once they buy a new car, that is just the beginning of an extensive and frequently costly project of modifying to get boosted BMW performance (http://www.autowerks.com/). There are many thousands of various decisions on how to accomplish this. Where do you begin, what can be completed by the typical home mechanic and what requires pro help? Also, where can one purchase quality parts at the best price? Purchasing parts is the area of modifying that you have considerable control over and where you can save the most time and expense, if you do your homework.

There is more than one theory on this topic. With respect to BMWs, significant design and engineering was completed by the factory to achieve a premium car that is typically a superior performer than most of its peers. It is way too easy to whind up heading backwards in your goal for performance by purchasing the wrong parts, installing them incorrectly or not matching up the performance characteristics of various systems on your car. Also, BMW itself is now producing an ever growing line of its own aftermarket parts so you can be confident of the same quality and engineering in these parts as the rest of your car. The negative side is these parts are frequently much more costly than their competition.

So, how can one go about finding premium parts for your car? I am a huge believer of doing research online using a variety of tools. There are some good user groups consisting of many thousands of BMW owners. With some work you can frequently find a member with your exact vehicle who has already done similar modifications to their vehicle and can frequently provide some valuable insight into what works, who has the lowest price, install instructions and more. Some of my favorites are bimmerforums, e46fanatics and roadfly.org. Time spent here will often save you signifiacnt cost and frustration so you don't have to make the same mistakes as others have.

Another great resource that is frequently overlooked is eBay. The choices is often overwhelming and there are a lot of cheaply made, knock-off parts that you should try to stay away from. However, if you buy from a reputable supplier with excellent feedback and do your research on exactly the part you require and at what price, you can certainly maximize your modifying budget. You can purchase new parts, OEM BMW parts (http://www.autowerks.com/) and used BMW parts (http://www.autowerks.com/) quickly and easily to make your modding project a winner.
