VueMetrix Introduces TEC (Thermoelectric Cooler) Temperature Controllers with Automatic Temperature Servo Tuning

Sunnyvale, Calif. (PRWEB) October 18, 2009 -- VueMetrix Inc. today announced the first releases in its new product line of temperature controllers, the Vue-TEC-15 and the Vue-TEC-24. Designed to drive Peltier effect devices (thermoelectric coolers or TECs), the new controllers deliver precise temperature regulation of small thermal loads such as laser diode and heat sinks, non-linear laser crystals and infrared detectors. The new products expand VueMetrix's portfolio from laser diode controllers into the closely related field of thermal control.

The first-time setup of temperature controllers is traditionally a tedious and time-consuming process. With VueMetrix's new products this has been dramatically streamlined thanks to VueMetrix's advanced Windows application, WinVue. WinVue automatically characterizes the thermal load, calculates optimum servo constants, and sets up the controller for stand-alone operation. This tool is not only an enormous convenience to users, it also provides a parametrized model of the thermal load that is suitable for use as a quality assurance metric.

Vue-TEC 15/24 is a switch mode DC/DC converter with smoothing filters to improve power conversion efficiency. The TEC will be subjected to a slowly varying DC voltage, which maximizes temperature to power conversion efficiency and optimizes the longevity of the device. Vue-TEC 15 is rated at 120 watts and the Vue-TEC 24 is rated at 200 watts.

An auxiliary second serial port on the Vue-TEC allows it to communicate internally with another controller, combining seamlessly with other models in the VueMetrix line. "Our customers can take full advantage of these mix and match possibilities," said VueMetrix senior director of sales, Joe Avery. "By choosing the appropriate combination of temperature and laser control, the customer can build a VueMetrix system that best meets his cost, size and performance goals."

Like all VueMetrix products, the Vue-TEC is microprocessor controlled and features advanced fault diagnostics, user-settable operational limits, and an extensive library of interface commands. Either RS-232, USB or both can be used to interface with the controller, which can also run stand-alone or in conjunction with the WinVue user interface program. It is available in packaged form or as a circuit board assembly. A Developer's Kit is available that includes the controller, all necessary connectors, a power supply and WinVue software.
